    The Eidolon Incident

A classified Anima operation. Designed to eliminate one investigator. What happened instead broke a man, displaced a child, and set a conspiracy burning that has not stopped in twelve years.

    Objective

The Eidolon Incident is the official Anima Dynamics designation for an operation conducted by the Compliance Division twelve years before the events of Ghost Signal. Its objective was the elimination of Senior Investigator Kaelen Corbin, who had advanced too far in his investigation into Anima's conspiracy surrounding The Ark. The Compliance Division designated him a critical liability. The plan was simple: lure him to a specific site in Eidolon under the pretence of a routine field assignment, and use an unstable Precursor artefact as the instrument. Deniable. Clean. Final.

    Commanding faction

Anima Dynamics, Compliance Division. Silas Barrett was present at the operation as Kaelen Corbin's former protégé, participating in both the execution and the subsequent cover-up.

    Known events

The operation proceeded as planned to the point of artefact activation. What Anima's planning did not account for was the presence of a second consciousness: Kaelen's twelve-year-old daughter, whom he had brought to the site believing the visit was safe. Eidolon, for all its desolation, carries a stark beauty in its ruins, and he wanted to show her something extraordinary in a world that offered very little of it. Anima had no knowledge of her presence.

When the artefact activated, its output was altered by the presence of a second mind in close proximity. It did not kill Kaelen. It displaced his daughter, teleporting her to an unknown location and wiping her memory entirely. A fragment of a dying Precursor consciousness, adrift in The Echo, used her as the nearest available vessel at the moment of discharge. The connection formed between the two of them that day has never been fully severed. It runs through The Echo still, whether either of them is aware of it or not.

Kaelen survived, broken, believing his daughter was dead. Anima, satisfied that he was destroyed as a functional threat, closed the file. They attributed the incident publicly to an industrial accident caused by Corbin's own negligence, destroying his professional reputation in the process.

The girl was found elsewhere in Meridian with no identity and no memory of who she was or what had happened to her. She was taken in, given a name, and raised in Ergo Loom. Whether she is still alive, and what she has become, is the question Anima has not yet thought to ask.

    Outcome

Classified. The operation is listed internally as concluded, but its consequences remain entirely active. Anima discovered Sona's existence and significance only later, through anomalous Echo readings they could not explain. By then, she had become something they had not planned for and could not fully control. Kaelen Corbin, believed neutralised, has resurfaced twelve years later with an active investigation that threatens to expose the entire conspiracy. Asset Containment Protocol 734-C has been reactivated in response.

The Eidolon Incident did not end. It changed form.

    Threat level

Critical. The Eidolon Incident is not a historical event. It is an active conspiracy. Every faction aware of its true outcome is either hunting its consequences or trying to bury them.
